Thanks to a passionate idea, 5,000 specialized water buckets were put into practical use after 8 months of preparation, bringing unexpected benefits to Kon Tum people.
After the field trips, Mr. Cao Tien Vi (President of ASIF) realized the serious shortage of water containers for daily life of Kon Tum and Gia Lai people. Because the water source is far away, people have to carry disposable plastic bottles on their backs and walk 2-3 times a day to get water for daily life. This homemade tool is unhygienic, able to hold very little water, and easy to drop along the way.
An initiative to create a water container to reduce the hardships of people suddenly popped up. On August 29, 2020, Mr. Vi worked with Mr. Tran Duy Hy - Chairman of Duy Tan Plastic Production Joint Stock Company on this idea. A month later, a design sketch of a specialized water basket was created. The new water basket has a capacity of 20L, a large lid, sturdy straps and a convenient valve. On February 18, 2021, the first water basket was completed and tested locally.
On April 11, 2021, 5,000 specialized water buckets were given to households in Kon Tum, starting their mission in storing water for daily use. Holding the new buckets in hand, many people are still very surprised about it.
“I heard about it not too long ago and now I have a new water basket on my shoulders. From now on, every trip to the stream can bring more water for my whole family to use" - Ms. Y Dai (Dak Ro Ong commune, Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province) shared.
After knowing about the Gui project, many benefactors joined hands to support the project. In just 2 weeks, ASIF received 3,434 donation buckets from the community. Each basket costs 150,000 VND.
For every basket funded by benefactors, ASIF will fund one more, doubling the number of water buckets to people in these remote areas.
In 2021, ASIF aims to donate 50,000 specialized water buckets to households in Gia Lai and Kon Tum. It is expected that there will be one more basket donating event every month until the end of 2021 in Gia Lai and Kon Tum.
